Summer Reading

ok so I lied with no more books left to read. I did finish all 22 don't get me wrong but I have a million and one summer reading books to get though in the summer. I have 12 at the moment and tow that im waiting for already reordered. Yep I'm a strange one I love to preorder books and then get then the day they hit the stores and then read them in three days and whine about how I have to wait six months for the next one. Yeah I'm allowed to whine and wish for the next ones in the series it's part of being a bookworm if you cant stand it then get out of the library. In any fact I'll open up a blog for summer reading and add it to this post for anyone willing to follow me as I read this summer.

Another great thing is when I told the Librarians I was finished they got all excited and huged me. I'm crossing my fingures and hoping that I finished first in state. I think it'd be tough to beat me unless there is someone out there with a photographic memory, but then that takes the fun away from the book. You get the plot line and you finish it fast, but you never feel emotions from it or watch as the character grow and progress. Ok I'm off topic again folks back to my celebrations. The news paper for the town wants to do a people profile on me and something is going to happen on tuesday. I wish I knew what it was but I dont. I had photos taken and they will end up somewhere I'm guessing. I'll keep you updated on the celbration activities going down.

Look Me in the Eye by John Elder Robison

Dancing With The Stars ended tonight and Shawn Johnson won so I'm excited. Ok I'm off topic now on to my last book.

John Elder Robison tells his story about his life with Asperger's and how difficult it was. He quit High school and got mixed up in trouble causing a lot of bad things to happen before he found out his illness.

I give it a 3/5. I liked it as much as the other. I'm not into bibliographies I guess but I stuck though till the end. Its nice that these writers have the courage to share their personal stories and I commend them for it. I guess it is time for me to say goodbye to the dedicated who stuck with me till the end. I never intended this blog to be in so much publicity as it is. It was mostly for me to keep track of my personal feelings for each book.

A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier by Ishmael Beah

Yeah again nothing really to say so again lets dive in.

This is a true story of a boy who was forced in the military to fit. He was into hip hop before he was in the service. He ends up moving to New York.

I give it a 3/5. I hated this one too just not as much as Nineteen minutes. I couldn't get into it at all. I don't even know how to go about reviewing this one it was just hard to get though.

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

No need to listen to me talk to much here. I've said everything I needed to in the last post so lets dive right into it shall we.

This book is about a young girl who's brother dies and she gets lost from her mother. Liesel is taken in by strangers and raised by them. She wants to learn to read and steals books throughout the whole books learning how to read. What will happen to our young heroine? Who's telling the story?

I give it a 4/5. It was confusing at the start of the novel. They really don't give you hints as to who is telling the book to you till a few chapters. Again at the end it is confusing as well as to what is going on. It does some jumpy stuff toward the end otherwise it is a great read.

City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

I finished two books so far since my last post and finishing the final book later tonight asap. I've been a bit behind in my blogging. Time now to recap you all on what I have read.

Clary can see people that no one else can see. What happens when she is the only one to witness a murder that leaves no trace or sign that it ever took place. soon she is sucked in those three people's world and uncovers things that change her life forever.

I give this a 5/5. I loved the whole plot line of the story and the way it flowed. You can feel the struggles every character is going though. She writes it so well and then surprices you at the end of the book that makes you just think WOW. I loved it.

Gym Candy by Carl Deuker

I finished this one in two days. We had a tech rehearsal so I got like two days of reading done yesterday and tonight's the concert so I'll get more reading done today too.

Mick's dad played football so of course he taught his son to play even though his mother wanted him to do gymnastics as well. Mick wants to prove he is the best footballer out their always wanting to be a star. When a trainer he works with privatly offers him a way to get and upper edge Mich has to make the choice. Will he go for the edge or will he continue without cheating?

I give it a 4/5. I couldn't get into the book all that much. I don't get football at all so hearing some of the tech terms didn't help me understand. I couldn't feel the characters struggles. To me what separates good writers from great writers is the way the write it to make you feel the struggle.

The Good Guy by Dean Koontz

Wow we can now count how many books I have left on one hand. I have a feeling I'll be the first one in state too. I could be wrong but of course Mrs. Scott will ask around to see if anyone else has a student who has done it.

Timothy Carrier is an ordinary guy who enjoys a drink after work at a local pub. One night while he is just enjoying a nice night at the bar he is mistaken for someone else and is handed a envelope of money with a picture of a girl along with a note saying "Ten thousand now. You get the rest when she's gone." Save her life by leaving with the money? Hand the money over to the real guy? Save her life? What will Tim do?

I give it a 5/5. I loved this book and I'm not a fan of horror type things at all so it is a shock that I got into it. I could feel the struggles that everyone right down to the killer felt. Hats off to dean Koontz.

Does My Head Look Big in This by Randa Abdel-Fattah

This is my second one for May Madness as it shall be called from here on out. Took me three days which is as long as the others will take too.

Amal is sixteen year old an Australian-Palestinian-Muslim, who is in love with Adam. She makes a decision to wear the Hijab which causes issues along the way with students.

I give it 4/5. it was a good story but I felt it lacked conviction. I didn't feel anything the characters were going though and it felt as if I was just reading words instead of seeing a story play though my mind.

Pride of Baghdad by Brian Vaughan

This took me like 20 minutes to read. The book was a graphic novel so yeah no time needed to finish it. I found out today that one of the Abe Babes wants to put my blog on their website and that my librarian is trying to get a story and picture of me for the schools website, which made me feel fantastic. I'm more popular then the football team. lol

This book is based on a true story that happened the same way it did in the book. For me to write any more of a summery would be longer then the book itself.

I give it 1/5 for it. I'm not into graphic novels and it felt too rushed for me. I liked how it was based on a true story, but it didn't do much for me. It was an easy read and in my opinion not truly a book that should have been chosen for this award. Again that is just my own thoughts.
